Somebody posted a story from back in the 80s. Trump tried to get into Studio 54, which is apparently a really cool place. He was turned down.
This was supposed to tell us that Trump was always rotten. If I hadn’t heard of him before, this would have the opposite effect. Rich people and fashionable places have been kicking me out since I was born. If Trump is also kicked out, maybe he’s on my side, maybe he understands people like me.
A similar process really happened in 2015 when Trump popped into the national news. At the time I was listening to Money Talk Radio for background noise. One of the hosts was a NYC investor who warned his audience that Trump was universally disliked in NYC circles. He never kept a promise, never paid a debt. The assessment was accurate and SHOULD have warned me, but it came from rich fashionable NYC so I figured the truth must be opposite.
Trusting the messenger is important for a new product. This is basic salesmanship for positive messages and it ALSO applies to negative messages. Enemy of enemy is friend.
