Little fact buried

Unlike previous galaxy-size item, this one is extremely local.

Via Spokesman, the VA hospital in this neighborhood is going through some management turmoil.

The hospital is a huge facility, dominating the skyline in this quarter of town. It looks like it could handle several hundred patients, and I always imagined it was handling massive numbers of patients.

The national VA is doing a BRAC process, downsizing and eliminating hospitals where no longer needed. The downsizing would reduce “maximum” staff here from 1500 to 1200.

I can’t find the actual number of employees in this sequence of articles, but I think it’s considerably lower. When the hospital was evacuated for Aaron Farinacci’s holocaust in August, news said that 400 employees were involved, along with 27 elderly patients in the associated nursing home.

The article goes through a bunch of details about the bureaucratic churn and politics, then slips in the important fact.

The hospital handles about 1400 patient visits per year, which is FOUR PATIENTS PER DAY.

Those FOUR PATIENTS could easily be sent to other clinics in town without overburdening anyone.
