Not new, as fucking usual

This discussion isn’t really my department, but…. Tech tyrants constantly rewrite the real history of tech. And tech history is my department.

Meservey, one of the Substack heads, made this comment.

NEW BUSINESS MODELS?

First, there aren’t any new business models. What we have now is the opposite of business. At best it’s new versions of tulip trades. Modern tulips are badly drawn pipe-smoking monkeys.

Second, the old space program was almost totally privatized. NASA didn’t build its own rockets or satellites. All of it was contracted to Boeing and Lockheed and Raytheon. If this seems unfamiliar, remember the famous astronaut quip: “What scares me is that it’s all built by the lowest bidder.”

Third, Elon and Jeff and Richard’s space programs are not developing anything new. They’re reusing 1960s tech rather badly, and they’re COMPETING FOR GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS, just like Raytheon and Boeing.
