I’ve often asked WHERE ARE THE GODDAMN PHILOSOPHERS? Well, it’s a dumb question. Philosophers are spokesmen for psychopaths. That’s where they are.
Unsurprising: Sammy was always a criminal. Professional criminals are born, not made.
More salient: When Sammy set up his criminal empire in 2018, he brought along Philosopher MacAskill to provide Gangster Ethics. MacAskill is the gangster’s philosopher, turning theft and murder into “helping the future”. Some early participants were NOT criminals, and objected to Sammy’s criminality. MacAskill defended Sammy and gave him “moral” cover, which is, of course, the essential job of any philosopher.

Out of curiosity I checked the blog of the American Philosophical Association. You’d expect a guild journal to criticize malpractice and misuse of the brand. Nope. It’s all fashionable crap.
The blog has a section on “the virus”, which doesn’t even start to question the NAZI takeover of the world. Instead, it was advising grad students on how to keep their tenure track running during shutdown and online school.
There are several mentions of Effective Altruism. This article seems to be the most detailed. It contrasts EA with another movement called Mutual Aid, and concludes that Mutual Aid is better. What is Mutual Aid? Fancy name for civilization. Do your duty, help your neighbor. Can’t argue with that. But the article still misses the inherent gangsterism of EA and doesn’t attempt to disown a movement that glorifies psychopaths.
