I tried that for several years in the ’90s and found EXACTLY ZERO worthwhile fiction. EVERY BOOK was designed to destroy the reader’s soul. It’s all weapons, just as all newspapers and broadcasts are weapons.
If there are any exceptions, I don’t have the time or blood pressure to find them. I’m not going to take 1000 shit-covered soul-bullets to find the possible theoretically claimed diamond.

Kirn and Taibbi are insiders who can’t properly empathize with outsiders. Taibbi has weird delusions about a mythical “objective” journalism which never existed. Kirn sees literature from an analytical viewpoint and doesn’t recognize the emotional impact of intentional evil.
