I don’t blame them

I finally signed up for Twitter, so I can compare the algorithmic feeds of all the major social media.

Question at hand: Who is covering the PURPOSE OF LIFE now that Franny has brought it into the public conversation for the first time since 1945?

Nothing subtle about Rumble and Reddit and Medium. Rumble is owned by Trump and Reddit is owned by anti-Trump. EVERY VISIBLE ITEM in those universes is effectively pro-Trump talking points. The antis are helping to reinforce and strengthen the pros, and THAT’S THEIR PURPOSE. Medium is identical to Reddit, but harder to see because its bandwidth is even more totally dominated by pointless repetitious bots.

Reddit does carry a few articles about the strike, but as usual the autists dig into multi-level details and decimal points about their favorite programs and ignore the whole battle between workers and capital. Skills and purposes aren’t partial differential equations, so they don’t exist.

Facebook is simple and not really algorithmic. I’m active in a couple of neighborhood-type groups for Enid and Spokane, so my feed comes from those groups, with no “suggesteds” at all.

Twitter is more interesting. I’m not active at all there, so the feed is all “suggesteds”. Twitter is Elon and Elon is Twitter. Everything in my feed is curated by and for Elon’s benefit and gain. His “political” side is the tech autist side, which basically reduces to pro-Trump.

Substack is definitely more refined. The subscription model prevents takeover by automatic teambots. Substack writers have to aim for more serious attention, which means most of them are trying to be more substantial than party talking points. Nevertheless, my feed is totally dominated by RFK, who effectively works for Trump because he “spoils” D votes.

Only the Ankler is discussing the strike. Their focus is on facts, not philosophy. They’re serving people inside the profession who genuinely need to know how the negotation is moving.

Who is discussing the purpose of life? The mystics. Most of them are treating life from various traditional religious angles, not as science, but they’re getting the real science right.

And there’s the most peculiar thing of all. Real neuroscience is proving many of the “superstitious” and “paranormal” findings to be correct, but the mystics don’t know it and don’t even want the endorsement of real science.

I don’t blame them. No sane person wants the endorsement of an institution that has been creating genocide and torture for 300 years.

Irrelevant sidenote since I’m talking about algorithms. WordPress’s reader seems to have a strange idea of my tastes. It mostly shows my own items, which is automatic. A writer is automatically “subscribed” to his own blog. The reader feeds a couple of “suggesteds” each day. ALL of the “suggesteds” are strictly Christian. No other religions, no other subjects. I have no idea how this started, and there’s no obvious way to deselect it or select other types of “suggested”. Other algorithms and adservers have a remarkably accurate sense of where I am and what I like and what I wrote in this WordPress blog. WordPress doesn’t know what I wrote in this WordPress blog.
