The current spate of canceling academics for holding balanced and objective views is being compared to McCarthyism. In a general sense this is valid but it misses the important TIMELINE of the HUAC/McCarthy period.
HUAC started its inquisition in 1947. ALL of Congress was on the same side. It wasn’t Joe McCarthy’s “indecency” vs the rest of Washington. ALL the Deepstate agencies and bankers and politicians were desperately trying to erase the New Deal because FDR had constrained Deepstate. NEVER AGAIN!
They needed a new enemy to justify more war, and Russia is always our default enemy. FDR had been working with Russia to defeat the Kraut Nazis. Now we were the leaders of the Axis, so we needed to take over the Axis duty of obliterating Russia.

“An armaments boom is the only alternative to a decline in business”.
Barron’s forecast became official policy. Early in ’47 and again in ’48, prices began to sag. The commodity market declined and the dread word Depression appeared in the business pages.
It was at this strategic moment that the Red Menace was conveniently discovered in Greece. It was at this point in history that the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan and an armaments economy were put over on the people to increase the profits of the few at the expense of the many.

HUAC later went after Henry with its usual Sprenger/Kremer ferocity, at one point reducing him to tearful frustration. He needed to be erased because he was carrying on the HIGHLY POPULAR New Deal.
Politics follows Newton’s laws. Changing the direction of a moving mass takes a lot more force than letting the mass move in its chosen direction. Normal people were sympathetic to our Russian ALLIES because Russia had taken the brunt of the losses and deaths in defeating the Nazis. HUAC and media needed to apply a large counterforce to turn around popular sentiment.
McCarthy’s sin wasn’t opposing Russia. McCarthy’s sin was picking the WRONG TARGETS. He was exposing some of FBI’s agents provocateurs, so the witch hunt had to end.
We’re seeing the same huge counterforce now. Anti-Muslim counterforce was needed to generate a new war in 2001 because we had been dealing in a normal way with Muslim countries for too long. Anti-Russian counterforce was needed to generate a new war in 2012 because Deepstate had been training us to favor Yeltsin and then Putin. Now anti-Muslim counterforce is needed again because Deepstate needs another war.
