Experienceleth

People who have real experience in a specific area can immediately distinguish between experienced and inexperienced writers or experts. This is especially true with juries and trials. Jury service is a common** experience, but the vast majority of people who write or talk about trials show that they haven’t been there.

The media are focusing on Trump’s fake “trials”, intended to divert attention from his real crimes.

In the first place, nobody even notices the diversion!

In the second place, the discussers haven’t served on a jury. They doubt that the lawyers can find jurors who don’t know much about Trump.

THAT’S NOT THE CRITERION.

Even in normal non-celebrity trials, some jurors will inevitably be familiar with the defendant or victim. Lawyers are fine with familiarity. They only reject people with a vested interest. People who worked for the defendant in business or crime, or people who were personally robbed or beaten by the defendant, or cops who arrested the defendant.

** Looking it up, maybe it’s not as common as I thought. About 32 million are called each year, and the majority of them don’t report at all. Only 40% show when called, and nobody is ever punished for not showing up. (This is another fact you aren’t likely to know unless you’ve been called.) About 1.5 million people actually serve on a jury each year. That’s only 1% of the voting population.
