Some jokes from a 1951 magazine, probably distributed nationally as Features, the earlier version of today’s Memes. We don’t see Memes in mainstream publications now. “Journalism” has rigorously insulated itself from ALL feedback and connection to popular wisdom.
The postwar inflation and shortage was still around in 1951, just starting to fade out. Our postwar inflation is lasting in a similar way, though the purpose of the war was opposite this time. In WW2 we were part of the Allies, defending ourselves against an external attack from the Axis. In 2020 we are the Axis, attacking all of civilization both internally and externally. The 2020 war has reached a partial ceasefire but hasn’t been concluded. There’s no victory, no surrender, no Versailles, no Nuremberg.

1. Shortage: There was plenty until people thought there wasn’t.
2. Deflation: Archaic word, not in common usage.
3. Incompatibility: The husband loses his income, so the wife loses her patibility.
4. Some people are so sensitive that they feel snubbed if an epidemic overlooks them.
5. The early bird doesn’t always get the worm. Franklin discovered electricity, but
the fellow who invented the meters made the money. (That’s Edison, of course.)
6. Sooner or later, the man with a pull is ousted by the man with a push.
(Machiavelli in one short sentence!)
