The good bureaucrats in the Biden admin who worked to restore the New Deal restrictions on Men Of Monopoly are now seeing their work smashed and deleted.
This didn’t have to happen. It didn’t happen the first time, so the alternative is POSSIBLE.
The original New Deal was NOT smashed by the next few presidents.
Constant: Politicians always want to destroy what the previous party did before.
Variable: Presidents and congresses DIDN’T destroy FDR’s controls on Wall Street. The controls stayed in place until 1978 or so, when Carter started breaking them and every president after Carter broke more. By 2000 it was all gone. Clinton did the heaviest wrecking.
What’s the difference?
I can see instantly what’s WRONG with the Democrats now. Their politicians are fully obedient to a few evil billionaires, EVEN AFTER the billionaires deserted them and went over to the Trump side. The modern Democrats REFUSED to support and advertise and sell their OWN BEST PEOPLE, Lina Khan and her cohort in other agencies.
Why were presidents from Truman through Nixon UNABLE or UNWILLING to delete the only good thing that ever happened in this fucked “country”? Truman obeyed billionaires and Deepstate but didn’t work very hard; maybe malicious compliance? Eisenhower happily kept the restrictions in place and had the most healthy and sustained economy ever, WHICH IS NO FUCKING SURPRISE. JFK, a gangster and rich boy, might have wanted to ruin the New Deal but didn’t start, and LBJ was simply determined to get another permanent losing war underway. Nixon installed the necessary conditions: EPA as the stick and an open door to China as the carrot; but he didn’t start deleting the enforcers.
I can see WHAT happened but I can’t figure out WHY those presidents and congresses were not following their natural instinct to enrich the richest and ruin everyone else. If there’s a lesson here, or a way to make things work right, I’m not discerning it yet.
