Wolf’s readers often contribute stories from their own experience. This is far more valuable than any sort of generalized observation no matter how well informed. In yesterday’s column on the sudden “unexpected” failure of Elon’s unusable undrivable unsafe illegal Cybrtrk, a marketer tells us why modern businesses choose to appeal ONLY to one religion. This is contrary to all normal business practice, but they refuse to be normal.

I work in marketing. When we run deliberately polarizing messages, we’re betting that the 1/3 we’re talking to will more than make up for the 1/3 we’re alienating. And that the 1/3 who don’t care may never care.
Again, from a marketing perspective, this strategy doesn’t have a great risk/reward profile! The 1/3 you’re talking to may not take up the slack. And the 1/3 you alienate tend to stay alienated FOREVER.

He’s obviously not happy with the approach, but it’s what his clients want.
The MOST valuable piece of information I’ve seen on this subject was the Gallup poll of journalists a few years ago, showing that journalists are proud of bankruptcy. They are perfectly willing to sacrifice their own companies and jobs to serve their Democrat cult. The ONLY THING that matters in life is helping the Team.
The Cybertrk is an extreme test case for party-based loyalty. It violates all the rules of normal design and ergonomics, and violates all safety regulations. If the car-safety agencies were not TOTALLY BRIBED BY ELON, they would have rejected this ROLLING WEAPON instantly. Production would have been halted by force.
Even worse, Tesla fans were on Gaia’s team. Gaians are also gun controllers and supposedly nonviolent. This product proved that they weren’t against violence, they were just mindlessly following the cult leader. If the cult leader orders you to buy and drive a lethal weapon, unsafe at any speed**, who needs Ralph Nader?
Now that their Noble Leader has joined the opposite team, without changing any of his own REAL principles, the team members are faced with cognitive dissonance. Some are pulling away, but most will stick with the leader out of absolute personal enslavement.
They won’t wake up, won’t stop being Teamites.
Machiavelli wins every time.

** Metrology footnote: The Cbrtrx is unsafe at ANY speed including zero MPH. Nader’s title was an exaggeration for the Corvair, which was less safe than other cars when driven fast and steered suddenly. The Cbrtrk can injure people who happen to brush against it in a parking lot. When the lithium batteries explode spontaneously, it can hurt people near it who don’t even know it’s there.
