The Carney Solution (which I’ve been recommending for a long time) is catching on! Massachusetts has decided to stop screeching about “democracy” and start SUPPORTING ITS OWN PEOPLE. It will raise taxes, including a millionaire tax, and use the money to compensate for federal research cuts. It will also CROWDFUND the research, which I’ve also been recommending for a long time.
You can’t deal with a psychopath by fighting and shouting. Fighting energizes a psychopath, You have to strengthen your own particular resources. If you want to fund research to serve your own interests or tastes, PAY FOR IT YOURSELF. Don’t make people in Oklahoma pay for it. They don’t want it or need it. They need more research in oil drilling and wheat processing, and they should pay for it locally instead of asking Massachusetts to help.
The new Mass idea of taxing millionaires and seeking patrons is also the OLD Mass idea. MIT’s research started with a wealthy patron, Ned Green, who established his own lab and then gave it to MIT. His mother Hetty had been the nastiest kind of billionaire, trading stocks to pile up money, so Ned felt an obligation to use his inheritance for service.
