Since I don’t own a cellphone, websites make peculiar guesses about my location, presumably based on the office of my cable provider. When I was using Comcast, the guesses tended toward the southeast part of town. Occasionally they would go wild, thinking I was down in Richland (150 miles south of here) or Seattle. For a year I’ve been using CenturyLink, and the default guess hasn’t changed much.
Weather.com thinks I’m in the University District, and repeats the assertion four times.

Google thinks I’m in “Lincoln Heights in Spokane Valley.”

Here’s a map of the metro area.

I’m in the NW corner (X). The University District (U) is just east of downtown. Lincoln Heights (L) is in the southeast part of town. The Valley (V) is a separate city to the east of Spokane. Lincoln Heights is definitely in the Spokane city limits, not the Valley.
But they’re not alone. Admittedly Spokane’s own geography is confused. Lincoln Heights is not near Lincoln Street, and the University District is not near College Avenue or University Road. The Bemiss (two S) neighborhood, one of the previous website guesses, is not near Bemis (one S) Street.
