More stupid “cybersecurity” tricks. Every time you clear the browser cache and re-login to sites, some of them will send you pointless emails asking if you just logged in. OF COURSE I just logged in, otherwise I wouldn’t be in Gmail receiving the pointless email reminding me that I’m in Gmail. And I didn’t log in on a “new device”, whatever that means. I’ve been using this computer and this ISP for about two years.
The whole re-login routine is designed to give more opportunity to hackers. Each added interaction is a new place to interfere, a new way to confuse the user.
Reminders can cause serious confusion when the location is wrong. The location is ALWAYS wrong to some extent. Usually it’s the wrong part of Spokane, presumably a center or office of my ISP. This time it was so far off that it could cause alarm if I didn’t remember that I had just logged in a few minutes before.
“Did you log in near Othello, WA on a new device?”
