Parody replacement

Lots of common phrases started as parodies, then replaced the source.

We have met the enemy and he is us has lost its parodic connection. The original was already obscure at the time.

New example. Astroturfing is commonly used and understood, but grass-roots support is no longer current.

Meta-example: I was noticing yet again that no humans appear to be reading this blog. Grumpily growled “Fuck it. I’ll just keep doing what I do and let the chips fall where they may.” …. Altered it to “let the chips read where they may.” … Which turned out to be more accurate!
