Happy 100th, KCRC!

Speaking of radio log books and such, KCRC in Enid is celebrating their centennial. I remember when they celebrated their 50th!

For many years KCRC was the first station in log book alphabetical listings. They didn’t try for the honor, just outlasted some stations with lower letters. CRC stood for Champlin Refining Co.

The other early station was KGEO, owned by Geo. F. Failing drilling equipment. KGEO branched into television then soon recognized that Enid wasn’t big enough to support TV. They moved to OKC and became KOCO.

Incidentally, today is Radio Day, nominally for a 1920 broadcast by WWJ in Detroit, though the actual startpoint is impossible to pin down. A whole lot of people and companies were experimenting, with or without licenses. Most of them didn’t leave a record.
