Bitcoin scammers nabbed 250 million from easy targets without leaving their computers, then splashed the cash all over the place, guaranteeing fast capture. No damn pride!
I have far more respect for this year’s string of art thefts like the Renoir theft in Paris. The workers had to understand the building, alarm system and security guards, then work fast and smooth with carefully rehearsed actions.
I’m sure the thieves are well paid for their skill and risk and silence, but they aren’t grabbing piles of cash. Rare paintings can’t be spent for luxury houses and supercars and nights of fun.
Dillinger’s Rule doesn’t apply here. Collectors at this level aren’t thinking about money, they’re dealing in pure abstract status, owning something that nobody else can own.
