Back in hippie days I once attended a lecture by Dick Gregory. He said Detroit got around to improving conditions for blacks after “the fire got too close to their Mustangs.”
Something similar seems to be happening here. The “city” dysgoverment was strongly encouraging and cultivating crime and homelessness, letting the poor overworked police catch the same criminals and Narcan the same dying addicts day after day after day, releasing them instantly to continue committing crimes and dying. Ordinary people are scared to go out, downtown businesses are closing or leaving.
The Catholic Criminalities apartments west of the river were a massive source of arson and crime for several years. Farinacci had been arrested and released several times before he finally burned his Polymarket-sponsored 800-house masterpiece in August.
I don’t know who was the Mustang. Maybe a Significant Other of the “mayor” lost her house, or maybe Somebody Important bet on 1000 houses and lost the bet. In any case the “city” is starting to make some teensy PHYSICAL gestures toward the right direction, not just appointing a task force to discuss the need for appointing a task force to discuss the need for appointing a task force.
This week they decided to close off the sidewalks in the Browne St viaduct, a constant location for overdoses and deaths. The previous “mayor” had closed it off in 2022, but the current “mayor” opened it up again in order to guarantee more addiction and deaths and thus more money pouring through the social services waterfall.
