Today is Nonviolence Day, marking Gandhi’s birthday. A good time to revisit Desistance, which seems to be even more foreign and alien now than it was a few years ago.
This rule is universal. When you’re supposed to argue about a specific question, you know the REAL question is elsewhere. Deepstate uses this trick in every possible subject.
If you want to stay sane you need to Desist. Don’t “resist” Trump. When you “resist” you’re dancing with him and he’s calling the moves. Resistance is assistance.
Who was the Desistor in WW1 and WW2? South America stayed resolutely out of both wars, and supplied both sides with oil and minerals and beef and wheat.
Even before the business advantage, non-combatant states prosper directly. In WW2 the neutrals didn’t have to suffer bombing and sieges. Cui bono doesn’t imply causation. South America didn’t start those wars. But cui bono is a hugely important LESSON for states and nations that must decide whether to participate in a war.
If you want to stay relatively intact, with a chance of prospering afterward, don’t start or participate in wars or arguments.
Right now it appears that India is trying to spread Desistance by taking charge of BRICS. More non-power to them, if they can do it!
