I hate NYC. It has bombed the country many times to enrich the rich. Wall Street has done INFINITELY more damage to us than Japs or Krauts or Saudis or Russkies, especially since the Russkies never even tried to attack us.
But a few more articles like this could temper my hatred! This short piece tells the story of NYC’s water towers.
Every tall building needs a water tower or pump because the main system doesn’t have enough pressure to reach high levels. I knew this already.
I didn’t know how they’re made and who makes them. Even now the towers are wooden barrels built from staves! I would have figured they’re titanium lined with gluten-free nanoceramic or some shit required by “environmental” rules. They’re assembled in place after hauling the staves to the top, which is much easier and safer than helicoptering an entire tower.
Three small family-owned companies make the towers, not giant conglomerates manufacturing in China. The oldest company has been operating steadily since 1866.
