Via Nieman, another survey on the loss of newspapers, both print and digital. As usual it misses the reasons.

Here’s the REAL danger signal:

= = = = = START DANGER:

The price of newsprint rose nearly 18% over the past year, Dudley reported, as U.S. mills closed or stopped production of newsprint. That’s about five times the national rate of inflation, he noted. As of April, the United States has just one newsprint producer left.

= = = = = END NEWSPAPERS.

Newspapers helped to close the mills. Newspapers have been pushing Green crap for 40 years, eagerly smashing all real industry, ESPECIALLY logging. The result is more forest fires, blamed of course on Evil KKKarbon, and no paper mills to print newspapers.

Punchline: Newsprint has ALWAYS been made of recycled paper. It’s cheap rough off-color paper.

If environmentalism was real, we should have ended up with ALL newsprint, not ZERO newsprint. Where is the recycled paper going? China, of course, via ships burning dirty bunker fuel.

Irrelevant: Many websites are heading toward a simpler black-and-white layout in response to the ADA mandates. I’m highly conscious of the trend since I’ve been struggling with rewriting courseware. The simpler layout is easier to read for ALL eyes, not just deficient eyes. Nieman decided to go the other way this month.

Two of the main sections are unreadable. ‘AI and the news’ is gray on dark green, ‘local news’ is gray on dark maroon.
