Y no salesmen?

Saw this silly headline in the reddit pro-bitcoin area:

The Silent Mutiny Against the Dollar: Why 61% of Americans Are Ready for Bitcoin (And Why We Are Explaining It All Wrong).

My question: Why have nearly all parts of life forgotten the basic rules of selling? It’s not new. Read the New Testament or Dale Carnegie or Duane Jones or a thousand other sources.

Explaining can help when the product or politician or religion is new. If nobody has heard of it, you might want to spread the word. After that, the product itself does the selling. Your job is to insure that people can sample the product.

For a church, invite people in, then make them feel welcome and needed.

For a product, send out samples and let people try it. If it’s something they need and like, they will keep buying it.

For a political party, SHOW YOUR GODDAMN WORK. Use your power to make ordinary life tolerable. Control crime, bring back decent jobs, don’t start wars.

Vending machines used to be a common form of sampling. You could see the product (candy, gum, cigarettes, newspapers) through the window. You’d insert a few coins and get a sample of the product without going through the trouble of shopping and checkout.

Bitcoin is a product, not a church. Nobody needs it. Samples are available from bitcoin “ATMs” in many stores, but the only purpose they serve is theft and fraud. There’s nothing visible or chewable or smokable. You put in money and get nothing. People understand the product. No explanation needed.

BIG POINT for churches and corporations and politicians:

WE ARE SMART AND WELL-INFORMED. We know your products and we don’t like them.

If you want our money or votes, improve your goddamn products.
