Thinking about Cherry Mash and Tootsie Pops along with newspapers….
Newspapers used to understand the Tootsie Pop rule, which is also the way nature works.
Give the kids a hard outer shell that needs chewing to reach the sweet inside.
Give the bees a dose of nectar AND a flower that takes work to penetrate.
Give the birds a tasty plum AND a skin that needs to be chewed.
Give the reader an attractive or interesting front page, AND a vending machine that takes a coin, AND a set of sections that need to be folded back before reading. After folding, give the reader pretty girls to look at and puzzles to solve along with the seed of hard news.
The sweetness is only part of the story. The INVESTMENT is the other part. We’re meant to work for our living, and we can’t digest the seed unless we work for it. True all the way down, from eyes to nose to teeth to stomach to gut bacteria.
