This arsonist is clearly working on contract. We don’t know yet if it’s a Polymarket bet or a gang thing.
He started a brush fire on the popular Centennial Trail east of downtown, then reported it to 911. Video footage from a nearby security cam showed him starting the fire with Heat Starter Fluid, then taking a photo of it with his iPhone. Verifying performance to employer, just like a postman scanning a package when he places it in the box.
None of the usual explanations account for the HUGE number of arsons in several of the dysgoverned homeless haven cities. Bets? Trying to get into prison? Pure nastiness? Filming for Tiktok? Some of the crimes could fit each cause, but not all.
Apparently Portland has a similar arson pattern. Portland is wet, so the fires take single buildings instead of huge areas, but the criminal actions sound the same.
Somebody was saying that Oregon’s state-level forest management and fire management are even worse than Washington’s. Zooming out the Watch Duty map tends to support this idea. Look at the Ore-Wash border. Similar conditions on both sides, but much more active fires on the Ore side. (Red means currently active and spreading, gray means controlled but not cold yet.)
Watch Duty is the BEST website. If I had to turn off all web stuff but one, I’d keep Watch Duty.

Another day, another weird uncategorizable arson. This one is a middle-aged man with a car and a credit card, clearly not homeless or senile. He drove to a gas station at 3AM, allegedly followed or stalked by several people. He stopped to fill up, used his credit card to start the pump, then danced around and lit the gas on fire, consuming the pumps and his car.
